A New Menacing Figure in Town
During his time in Chicago, Al Capone was at the peak of his life, brimming with ambition, desire for success, wealth, and women. In 1920, Chicago saw the mysterious death of James “Big Jim” Colosimo, found shot dead outside his restaurant. Although no one could definitively identify the culprit, rumors swirled about a new and rising figure in town, none other than Al Capone.
Johnny Torrio, Capone’s mentor and eventually second in command, took control of the operation after Colosimo’s demise. With Torrio and Capone working under Colosimo, suspicion surrounding his murder grew, as ambitious gangsters sought to climb the criminal ladder, attracting the attention of the police.
