Surviving The North Side Gang Ambush
Following the death of Dean O’Banion at his flower shop in 1924, Al Capone and Johnny Torrio had hoped to eliminate potential rivals and threats to their control of Chicago’s criminal underworld. Hymie Weiss, O’Banion’s successor, proved to be a formidable adversary, earning a reputation as “the only man Al Capone feared.”
In January 1925, a group of North Side Gang members, led by Weiss, ambushed Capone on a random street corner. Although Capone emerged physically unharmed, the surprise attack left him deeply shaken. The North Side Gang’s vendetta didn’t stop with Capone; they also targeted Torrio, but luck was not on Torrio’s side, and he faced more dire consequences.
