Reaching a Breaking Point
While Al Capone’s lifestyle appeared glamorous and exotic on the surface, the city’s dark underbelly was about to be exposed. Tensions between the Chicago Outfit and the North Side Gang reached a boiling point, and another member mysteriously disappeared. Capone’s trusted driver, a member of the Outfit, was found dead after suffering brutal torture.
His gruesome death only escalated the conflict, pushing Capone into a vengeful rage. He ordered his men to eliminate Hymie Weiss, but the mission failed, with Weiss surviving the attempt. This botched hit marked the beginning of a violent gang war in 1926, with both sides seeking revenge and power.
