Now, it’s time for a darker photo. After World War II, poverty was a big issue in America. Many people struggled to make ends meet, especially those who were part of minority groups or lived in urban areas. The war effort meant that jobs were scarce and prices were high.
So, it was hard for people to afford basic necessities like food and clothing. However, the government did try to help by creating programs like the War Food Administration and the Office of Price Administration. Unfortunately, desperate times meant desperate measures, such as for this family. I hope that things aren’t as bad as they seem here.
