Interesting Facts About the Goodest Boys (and Girls!)

February 27, 2022 by Sarah Barber

Let’s face it, dogs are pretty incredible. They’re the perfect amount of derp, love, compassion, and protection and frankly, we can’t imagine our lives without our furry, four-legged friends. But there’s a lot more to dogs than just the ~hilarious~ and heart-warming things we watch them do on the internet. We’ve compiled a list of interesting facts about man’s (and woman’s!) best friend. Let’s dive in!

The Nose Knows

Have you ever noticed how a dog’s nose is always kinda wet? It’s pretty cute, huh? Well, a dog’s nose is actually wet so it can absorb scent chemicals. Their wetness is actually their nose hard at work secreting a special mucus that helps absorb these chemicals, then they lick that cute little nose of theirs to better understand what it is they’re smelling.

Some Dogs Are Like, Really Good Swimmers

Take Newfoundlands for example, these dogs are so great at swimming that they act as little lifeguard dogs. You may be wondering why this breed specifically is so good at swimming, and the reason for that is because they have water-resistant coats and webbed feet. Some owners of Newfoundlands have even reported their dogs trying to save their lives … while they were swimming.

Some Dogs are Lefties, Some are Righties

Just like most of us humans, studies have shown that dogs have a paw they tend to favor over the other. If you’re wondering which paw your dog favors, offer him or her their favorite toy and see which paw they use first.

Sweet Sleepers

Do you ever see your dog all curled up, fast asleep, and let out an audible, ‘awwww!’? Dogs tend to curl up in a ball to sleep to protect their organs. This actually goes all the way to before we were throwing them birthday parties and buying them sweaters back when they were vulnerable to predator attacks in the wild.

Blue and Yellow, Blue and Yellow

Contrary to popular belief, dogs aren’t actually colorblind, they can in fact see two colors: blue and yellow.

Spot Developers

Dalmation puppies are born little white blobs and those precious little spots come later. And yes, all-white Dalmation puppies are as cute as they sound.

This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)

Okay here’s one that’ll make ya tear up, recent studies have shown that dogs are among a small group of animals that show unselfish kindness towards others without any reward. It’s just dusty in here, that’s all.
