Vintage Steampunk Bird
There’s something really intriguing about behind-the-scenes photos from Disney that give us a glimpse into how the magic is created. Disney’s Grand Central Creative Campus in Glendale is home to Walt Disney Imagineering’s full-service animated figure workshop. This is where talented Imagineers conceptualize, plan, build, and test audio-animatronic figures that will end up in one of Disney’s 12 theme parks.
This picture was taken in 1962 and shows us what went into creating Disney World’s Enchanted Tiki Room that showcases tons of animatronic exotic and tropical birds. Apparently, Walt Disney bought a caged mechanical bird while on vacation and had one of his Imagineers take it apart to see how it worked. The rest, as they say, is history.
