#44: Too Much of a Good Thing
There are some songs that people just can’t stand to hear. It’s not necessarily a sign that the song is bad; it might actually be great. The trouble is that it just gets played too often (possibly because the song is great). So if you’re a musician, you might get sick of being asked to play a particular song, and if you’re a venue, you might get sick of hearing a particular song.
If you’re a classical musician, it’s “Pachelbel’s Canon in D.” If you’re a bluegrass venue, it’s “Wagon Wheel” by Old Crow Medicine Show (no, Darius Rucker fans, he didn’t write it). If you’re in college and a guy in your dorm just learned the guitar and is always playing it at parties, it’s Oasis’ “Wonderwall.” And apparently, for this venue, it’s Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl.” Which is too bad for them because that song is a bop.
