Things That Have No Reason to Exist in Our Society But Inexplicably Still Do

I’m always fascinated by takes like the following one. I don’t deny that the wealth gap in many countries is increasing over time; the numbers show that the top of the pile has more and more of the money as time goes on. My question is, what do they expect can be done about it?

Make it illegal for people to make very much money? Decide on a certain threshold, and if you have more than that threshold, you have to stop earning money until you drop below that threshold? I’ve just never heard of anyone having any actual useful ideas about how to address this issue.
