Win The Super Bowl, Lose Your Watch
The Miami Dolphins were on fire in 1972. They had a record-breaking year, winning every game they played, making them the only team in NFL history to have a “perfect” season. Don Shula coached the Dolphins to their Super Bowl victory only to find himself the victim of sticky fingers when he was carried off the field during the post-game celebration.
Shula recalled in a Los Angeles Times interview, “You know, I never said anything to anybody, but when I was being lifted out, somebody stole my watch,” he recalled. “I could feel somebody grabbed my hand, and I wasn’t sure why they were trying to grab my hand. When I got back to the locker room, I realized my watch was gone. Somebody ripped it off!”
