I’m Not Familiar with It
Humor can be delivered in many forms in a TV show. Many people use blunt humor and say what they mean. Others will use humor in a way that you have to know what they’re talking about to get what’s funny. Like an inside joke, or a comedic reference of some kind. The popular sitcom Community, for example, is full of such references.
In one episode, Joey argues with the dry cleaner about putting up his picture for the film he is staring in, but the dry cleaner insists his film is offensive. Joey defends his request with an example from the movie Air Force One being offensive, and Harrison Ford still had his picture up. The dry cleaner is actually an actor in Air Force One, and you’d have to know that to get the joke.
