Purple-Winged Ground Dove
A dove is a stocky seed- or fruit-eating bird with a small head, short legs, and a cooing voice. Doves are generally smaller and more delicate than pigeons, but many kinds have been given both names. Doves are usually the symbol of marriages. In some cultures, after the wedding, two caged doves are freed from their cages by the couple as a tradition.
The next subject of this photograph is the purple-winged ground dove, a critically endangered species of dove, native to the Atlantic forest, mainly near bamboo, in south-eastern Brazil, far eastern Paraguay, and northern-eastern Argentina. This kind of dove is a specialized eater, which means it requires a large range in which to find the proper amount of food.
