Kākā
It is just sad to think that these beautiful birds are facing threats of endangerment and extinction. A lot of factors contribute to these threats, including habitat loss, an introduced species, pollution, population growth, and overconsumption. Illegal poaching also plays a huge part in this. One bird species that is heavily affected by these is the kākā.
The kākā is a large species of parrot of the family Nestoridae found in native forests of New Zealand. Two subspecies are recognised. It is a medium-sized parrot, measuring 45 cm (18 in) in length and weighing from 390 to 560 g. It is endangered and has disappeared from much of its former range, though conservation efforts mean it is now increasingly common across Wellington.
