Glossy Black Cockatoo
The cockatoo is one of the members of the order Psittaciformes. This family has a mainly Australasian distribution, ranging from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia. Cockatoos are easily distinguishable because of their prominent crests and curved bills. And of course, their most striking feature would have to be their plumage.
The next subject of Leila’s photography is this sexually dimorphic glossy black cockatoo. They are the smallest member of the subfamily Calyptorhynchinae found in eastern Australia, with adult glossy black cockatoos reaching up to 50 cm in length. Sadly, this gorgeous glossy and its kind are in danger, mainly threatened by habitat loss.
