Ignore the Problem
It can be tricky presenting the possibility of a learning disability to a student’s parents. Some parents are open to testing and using available resources, while others go into denial mode. Unfortunately, this teacher had a student whose parents immediately denied the possibility of a learning disability. Instead of potentially helping their kid, they transferred them to another school altogether.
Unfortunately, the parent’s denial will only hurt their child in the long run. There’s nothing wrong with having a learning disability, and there are plenty of resources available to help kids thrive. Sadly, this student didn’t get the support they needed, which may keep them back academically. Hopefully, their parents eventually got the hint.
