The Line Cutter
Parents behave badly in other situations beyond the classroom. This person tried to gently correct a kid’s behavior while waiting in line at a restaurant, and he got an earful from the parent. It all started when the kid cut in line to order some ice cream. The storyteller let the kid know that other people were waiting in line, so he’d have to go to the back. He wasn’t mean or crotchety in any way, and he tried his best to be friendly.
The kid ran off and immediately complained to his mom, who came storming up to defend her kid. The mom called the guy “unreasonable” for trying to get her kid to go to the back of the line. She explained that her kid had autism and didn’t know how to wait in line. The storyteller stood his ground and didn’t let her use that as an excuse for rude behavior. What would you have done in this situation?
