Failure to Launch
Children’s behavior in school and daycare reflects how they are treated at home by their parents. This storyteller used to work at a daycare, and one toddler particularly stands out in her memory for all the wrong reasons. This kid was almost kindergarten age but was not potty trained, cried about everything, and had zero social skills.
Concerned, our storyteller called a conference with the kid’s mom. Everything clicked into an unfortunate place once the meeting started. Turns out, the mom babied the heck out of this kid and gave in whenever he fake cried about anything. On top of that, she wasn’t even trying to potty train him because she wanted him to “stay a baby.” This whole situation sounds simultaneously weird and sad because the child was being set up for failure by their own well-meaning mother.
