Trauma or Basic Life Skill?
This storyteller used to be a special education teacher and had a negative experience with some of their student’s parents. They figured that learning how to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency would be a great life skill for their students. Some of the parents didn’t feel the same way about the lesson plan.
The dissenting parents said that learning what to do in a crisis situation was “traumatizing” for their kids. Any real-life crisis situation is obviously traumatizing, but knowing what to do in such a situation seems like a pretty solid life skill. The whole situation was so frustrating that this person quit teaching afterward. What a bummer.
