In a 1992 article, journalist David Connett mentioned that some consider this bank heist to be the crime of the century, and they may be right. The Brink’s-Mat Robbery took place almost ten years before the article was published, and it resulted in the thieves getting away with 26 million British Pounds worth of gold, diamonds, and cash.
If you’re like me, you can only dream of what it is like to live with that kind of money. After all, only those who have no respect for an orderly society are audacious enough to attempt such a crime. Unfortunately, in this case, four out of the six robbers involved faced no punishment. The two that did can at least say they did not rat out their buddies.
