Fear of the Future
I have mixed feelings about this next one. I think this person is implying that you shouldn’t go to college until you know what you want to major in, and I think that’s a bad piece of advice. After all, a great way to figure out what you want to major in is to take classes at college and see what you like. A lot of majors offer introductory seminars for this exact reason.
However, a lot of countries encourage a gap year between high school and college, and I see the advantages of this as well. Personally, though, I think gap years should be spent bagging groceries or cleaning bathrooms for minimum wage, because that will light a fire under students to get out there and get great degrees so that they can get better jobs than that in the future.
