#45: Rock Pattern
What is going on with this rock? It looks as though an artist painted it and then stamped it with a star shape. Well, perhaps Mother Nature was that artist; however, she didn’t use a rubber stamper! This little beauty is all a creation of nature, and what a wonder it is.
The whole truth is, this is a fossilized Crinoid, specifically, a sea lily. Sea lilies are invertebrates that are close cousins of starfish. They are attached to the ocean floor by a stalk. This cross-section of a sea lily was pressed into the sediment for thousands of years, resulting in a beautiful marine piece of art.
